Hello to everyone on this forum.
I've arrived to Istanbul recently and I don't know Turkish well yet, so I'll write in English for now.
I've decided to use a bicycle as one of the methods of transportation here in Istanbul.
And currently I've settled on a folding bike option.
Why is it so?
- I'm a complete newbie in bicycles, so until I am experienced enough to ride on busy streets, I can ride in safer and more quiet places, for example, to get to metro or metrobus station and then continue on metro or metrobus.
- Bicycles aren't allowed on Bosphorus bridges, so if you want to get from Asian side to European side or the other way you have no choice but to use some other method for transportation, folding bike offers more freedom here.
The only concern for me now is that folding bike offers much lower speed when compared to the "usual" bike, the question is - how inconvenient is that?
First, I ask whether someone here has an experience of riding a folding bike on the streets of Istanbul and knows how convenient that is.
Second, I ask for an advice on the exact model to buy - my budget is 800-1200TL and currently I think that 20" wheel size offers a good balance of compactness and ease of use. Is it really so?
